The Many Dimensions of DJ Ohmz
When you have a lot of ventures, you need to have a unique way to highlight them.
Take Omar Anderson, aka DJ Ohmz. He spins R&B and old-school Reggae at Saga Lounge in Springfield most Friday nights and has been invited to DJ at locations around the world.
Ohmz is also a rotating DJ on SIRUS XM radio on channels Fly and The Joint as well as making an appearance on Shade 45’s Sway in the Morning. He also appeared on BET’s 106 and Park and on the red carpet for Soul Train Awards.
Beyond radio and TV Ohmz is involved with luxury brand Blank vodka, a product that’s keto free, gluten free and no sugar added. The bottle is mostly blank so that people can use it to fill in their own blank. The vodka is launching in several area restaurants including Wahlburgers for which a special-edition bottle was created to incorporate the Wahlburger logo. Soon they’ll be launching Tequila Cayeya in stores.
He’s in the midst of focusing on real estate ventures with Ohmz Homez. Not to mention being a dad and working another full-time job weekdays.
Wearing so many hats is the best way to ensure he’s always working, especially in the current environment.
“I just try to put my hands in everything, because at the end of the day you always want to have more than one income coming in,” Ohmz said. “I believe that if 2020 didn’t show you that you need to get your stuff together and hustle up, it’s not happening.”
A marketing tool for it all
All of these enterprises can come together with the Stand Out Truck’’s mobile advertising. Because the truck can reach a multitude of audiences and the billboard messages can easily change, it’s the perfect way to highlight different facets based on the audience.
Ohmz agrees it gives him different options for tying in his different projects based on an event or location.
“I could have the truck do five things at once and keep changing the screen,” he said. The Stand Out Truck’s mobile billboard continually displays messages to the right customers at the right time and the right location.
Persistence pays off
A persistent message is something Ohmz understands. That’s precisely how he got his foot in the door in entertainment. Ohmz got his shot at Sirius XM after driving six hours to meet with an executive who said to stop by when he was in town. He emailed BET weekly for an entire year until they gave him an opportunity. Whenever he’s had the chance to ask questions of those who have been successful, he takes it.
“All these guys I met always had a gem for me,” he said. “I just took advice from all of them and put it together, brought that back home and pushed it with my brand.”
“I can honestly say that some of the fire that’s behind DJ Ohmz is because of some of these celebrities that took the time,” he added.
Now he tries to complete the circle by sharing his own advice with others, in particular encouraging them that success starts internally.
“If you don’t believe in yourself no one else will,” he said.
When he has the opportunity to reflect on the experiences he’s had, whether traveling to Tokyo to DJ or running into Patti LaBelle at Sirius XM studios, he takes a moment to appreciate what he’s accomplished.
“It’s something that I really take pride in because I know I worked my ass off,” he said. “And I’m still not done."
