With one sip of your carefully crafted coffee made from consciously sourced beans, you know you’ll be back as a repeat customer. Despite being launched in January 2020, just before the onset of a global pandemic, the café and its Owner press on in providing a coffee experience that keeps customers coming back.

A lover of exquisite coffee, Ayse Karaaslan, Owner of Socialite Coffee Bar, hasn’t allowed the traffic-slowing effects of COVID-19 to dampen her spirits. Instead, she focuses on offering the same fresh, high-quality coffee, unique sandwiches, delicious pastries, and seasonal selections to which her customers have become accustomed. “This is Springfield’s first third wave coffee bar,” Ayse explained. “I’ve teamed up with Onyx Coffee Lab, a coffee roaster who cares, has good business practices, gives a good price to the growers for the beans, and they really are the highest quality in coffee beans.”  The term "third wave" speaks to the emphasis not just on the quality of the coffee served, but also on the quality of the growing, sourcing, processing, roasting and brewing methods and practices that ultimately contribute to the end customer experience with the coffee.

To complement their top of the line and specialized coffee offerings, Socialite Coffee bar also makes just about everything served in house from syrups to baked sweets, from sandwiches to specialized dishes. Even the dairy milk used is locally sourced from Mapleline Farm in Hadley, MA, and the non-dairy milk options, including almond or oatmilk, are all natural. When asked her favorite items on the menu, Ayse quickly singled out the Oatmilk Latte with no sugar or flavors as her favorite drink, “…because I like to taste the intricacies of the coffee itself.” Her favorite food item – the Autumn Bowl, an organic foodie’s dream, which features farro, sweet potatoes, roasted tomatoes, pickled onions, baby kale, olives, and a maple balsamic vinaigrette.

Mindset matters for small business owners working to sustain and grow their business in the middle of a pandemic, and Ayse is proving that investing in customer relationships is essential. “My regulars are the ones keeping my business alive. My staff is very personable – we know and care about everyone who walks through that door. Come here a time or two, and we’ll know your name, your order, and you get that welcoming, home-y feel. I’ve even received messages from my regular customers when they haven’t been in for a bit explaining what’s been happening with them.”

And Ayse’s commitment to consistency in the customer experience is paying off. Recently, another local business, Maureen Sullivan Media, offered to sponsor advertising on the Stand Out Truck for five other area businesses, based on community nominations, and Socialite Coffee Bar received the most votes. Ayse’s reputation preceded her and ultimately earned her a spot on the Stand Out Truck. “Customers love having me as a barista,” Ayse laughed. “They always say ‘you’re so passionate about serving coffee!’ And I really am. I’m still just as passionate about serving amazing coffee now as when I first opened.”
