It's Not Only The Car Detailing But It's The Community Builiding At Ramos Detailing

Providing quality work and ensuring customer satisfaction are extremely important factors at Ramos Detailing. Just as important is having an impact in the community.

“I want everyone to know that there’s somebody in this community who was raised here, who lives here, who’s actually giving back,” said Owner Jose Javier Ramos. “Our door is always open. I’m not going anywhere.”

Ramos Detailing sponsors youth sports teams and donates free items – car detailing in their case – similar to what many businesses do. But it doesn’t stop there.

For several years Ramos Detailing hosted a free youth basketball tournament called We Are the Future. They had face painting, food, live music, and motivational speakers. Last year it was derailed by Covid-19 but Ramos hopes to revive it soon. The event was inspired by a similar tournament from Ramos’ youth, an opportunity that stuck with him. He had a goal to create something like it when he was able to do so.

“We don’t live in an area where everybody has enough,” he said. “We’re really into making sure our community is good. It’s not all about the money.”

He has hosted programs for special needs children and will soon be participating in Roca, a program to give opportunities to young people at the center of urban violence.

“I always say as long as you give the community a hand, they’ll give you a hand with what you need,” he said. Ramos has been in circumstances when very few people helped him, and he doesn’t want others to know that feeling.

A lifelong passion

Ramos has been detailing professionally since 2010 but his passion for cars has always been part of his life. His father fixed vehicles, and when his older brother participated in car shows Ramos would help clean the rims.

He first started the company out of his carport. It gradually expanded into a slightly larger garage, then another garage until he could expand to his present location in Springfield. He recently opened another shop in Holyoke. His nine employees do whatever they can with vehicles including cleaning, interior detailing, exterior detailing, ceramic and glass coating, and light mechanic work. The quality of their work combined with reasonable pricing makes Ramos Detailing popular with repeat customers.

“We make it so that anybody can afford a full detail,” Ramos said.

As well as taking care of customers, he makes sure to take care of his employees. He’s built a bond with them and wants them to always know they’re appreciated.

Taking care of others - whether it’s the community, his customers, or his employees - came from his mother. He said she was quick to always help others first and is his inspiration. It’s why he wants to make sure others around him prosper, know that they’re important, and know that there’s someone who cares.
