Palmer, MA – What do scenic views of Forest Lake, hometown cooking and a family-friendly atmosphere have in common? Russo’s Lakeside Seafood and Steakhouse, of course. Opened in March 2012 by Steven Giard, a friend and a business partner, Russo’s has become a Palmer favorite known for serving up flavorful meals made to satisfy diners, young and old.

A former machinist, Giard changed careers to enter the catering business after being laid off from his previous position. They initially started out making steaks and seafood, and now the almost 9-year-old restaurant boasts a menu full of simple yet filling homestyle meals.  The most popular dish on the menu – the handcut steak tips, grilled to order and served in a variety of flavors and combinations. For their top seafood item, Russo’s Baked Combo is a winning plate, with haddock, scallops, shrimp and lobster.

Patrons don’t only experience that home-y feel in the food, but Russo’s takes pride in making each customer feel like family. “The wait staff knows who everyone is,” shared Kathy Giard. “If you’re a regular, they probably have your order memorized, and will have your drink ready in no time.” The atmosphere of the restaurant is inviting, with an open area where you can actually see into the kitchen, and customers are known to speak with the cooks from the window, and an incredible lakeside view. “The view is great in the summer, but even from the indoor seating, you can still take in the amazing scenery.

Despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, including indoor dining with reduced seating capacity (currently at 25%), mask wearing, and social distancing, Russo’s continues to make good on the promise of comforting homecooked meals. Takeout is available daily, with delivery also offered on Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Among their menu options are Family Meals to Go, taking the stress of making dinner off customer’s plates, and putting good food on it.

Russo’s also hasn’t allowed the health crisis to stop their contributions to and engagement with the Palmer community. During 2020, they provided meal to individuals and families in need at Easter and Thanksgiving. They also continue to provide support to those who are shut in. In addition, the Restaurant recently held a Giant Lobster Dinner Raffle to benefit the Palmer Food Share, resulting in a donation of $1,000, thanks to community participation.
