New Gym in West Springfield Aims to Help Women Improve Mentally and Physically

West Springfield, MA — Physical fitness is important, but mental health is critical. A new gym in West Springfield focuses on that concept. Owner Jackie Izquierdo helps women believe in themselves and strengthen self-love while helping to strengthen their bodies.

“Once you focus on self-love, everything else will unfold,” said Izquierdo. “It starts with the inside-out first.”

Izquierdo said that many of her one-on-one or group training sessions end up being therapy sessions as she encourages all clients to focus on their mental health. The mental health piece, Izquierdo believes, is just as important as the physical health.

“I have hired 30 or 40 personal trainers throughout my whole journey, and nobody ever focused on the mental part,” she said. “Women want to work out, but they don’t realize you have to first work with what’s inside.”

She’s advertising on the Standout Truck® to reach a wide variety of clients, in particular those who aren’t frequently on social media. She is also utilizing the truck for a cross promotion with her social media page. Those who see the truck and snap a picture can tag her J’Fit Facebook page to be entered into a raffle. Four winners will receive a 30 minute one-on-one personal training session.

The uniqueness of the truck is a big reason she considered it for advertising.

“It’s a great idea to expand your business,” Izquierdo said. “It’s a hot thing right now. I see it everywhere.”

She got interested in fitness when she was feeling depressed. The more she exercised the better she began to feel. “Fitness really made me come out of my dark cloud,” she said.

Izquierdo turned her fitness hobby into helping others train at a variety of gyms. Eventually she turned it into a full-time job, then realized her growing list of clients needed their own space. On November 1, J’Fit will open in West Springfield as an appointment-only gym offering group classes and private sessions.

For those unavailable to meet in person or who would like a less expensive option, an online private fitness page is available for $35 per month. It includes chats about meal preparation, discussions about self-love, a focus on positive mental health and several workouts each week that can be replayed. The online component took off in 2020 and includes clients from across the country.

“Thanks to Covid, I was able to come out of my comfort zone and create this,” she said. “The fact that I was able to keep clients sane and workout from the comfort of their own homes, it was an outlet for them.”

When you do something with passion it’s worth it. I focus on everything: mind, body and soul.

The gym is female-only so that women can focus on exercising without feeling uncomfortable. Izquierdo encourages women of every age, shape and size. She loves seeing the transformations, whether they’re physical accomplishments or a shift in positive thinking that she’s seen from online clients.
