How A Single Mom Found Her Own TRIBE, One Bite At A Time
Manchester, CT — TRIBE Power Bites began as a healthy on-the-go snack option. For founder Kim Prada, TRIBE is also a movement to bring people together.
“I feel that’s what this society needs, is this human connection and communication,” Prada said.
TRIBE Power Bites are nut-butter based, golf-ball sized snacks that come in six standard flavors and six special flavors for bulk orders. They’re an on-the-go option for gym junkies, moms, kids, or anyone who is trying to fit an easy, healthier and convenient snack into their day.
The name came from connections Prada made during the pandemic when she started her business. Customers were supporting her not just financially but also by asking about her family and her well-being.
“I felt like my customers, the community and the people who came along with it, they gave me a tribe-like atmosphere that I never had encountered before,” she said. “It’s not really about family being your blood family, you build that tribe with the connections you make.”
Prada initially created the bites for herself as a convenient way to stay full for a period of time. When she donated a batch to a bake sale and realized how popular they were, she debated starting a business. Suddenly becoming a single parent and focusing on a full-time job temporarily delayed that decision. When the pandemic hit and her job was put on hold, she took another look at starting a new business.
Prada’s three-year-old daughter is eager to be involved in TRIBE. She helps taste flavors and was instrumental in the OGM&M variety, suggesting adding M&Ms to the recipe. Other flavors are influenced by music and popular culture. “Dark Fantasy” is inspired by the Kanye West song and Glen Coco comes from a character from the movie “Mean Girls.” Then the most popular flavor, White Cinn, is shortened from White Chocolate Cinnamon Roll.
In the future Prada would like to team up with other small business owners and work together. “I feel if more people were aware of supporting small businesses, there would be so much winning for everybody,” she said.
She also is inspired to be a positive role model for her daughter and to build generational wealth for her daughter’s future. Prada wants her daughter to know she has her own identity and has value and her own identity no matter what path she takes.
