VegFest413 Block Party Features Benefits of Plant-Based Lifestyle

Springfield, MA — The Vegan Block Party is sharing the benefits of veganism to the Springfield community. The summer event will have twenty vendors, more than half of which will serve delicious and healthy plant-based food options.

“We want to make sure people know there’s a lot of options when it comes to plant-based foods, not just fruit and veggies,” said event co-organizer Justin Yarde. “We have a lot of unique vendors with different types of dishes and areas of culinary expertise.”

It’s one of several events organized by Veg Fest 413 to promote the benefits of plant-based options.  Their first event was Veg Fest to showcase locally-based vegan vendors in the tri-state area. More than 350 people attended, a number that Yarde hopes to exceed with the Vegan Block Party.

“Our mission is to educate people on the benefits of being plant-based,” Yarde said.

The Vegan Block Party will be held on August 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on 321 Albany Street in the parking lot of Our Journey.

Yarde said another mission is to bring awareness to the food desert that exists in this part of Springfield. Through the upcoming event they’re hoping to let people know where to discover food options in the area.

In addition to food there will be a kid’s corner with face painting and a fashion show with different styles of baby wearing and baby carriers.

Ron Baker will provide entertainment and there will be a raffle for plant-based meals. Vendors will have food packaged and ready to eat off premises.

Yarde has a passion for plant-based businesses, opening the first vegan restaurant in Springfield. He’s hopeful that more people will discover the benefits of this type of diet. Yarde feels that interest in plant-based diets is expanding in the area.

“Western Mass is very big on plant-based food,” he said, “but Springfield itself was never that place until now. I feel like there’s a growing community.”
