Auntie Adrienne’s Restaurant Serving Food from the Heart

Springfield, MA - “I started cooking meals when I was about 6 years old, but never thought about owning a restaurant when I grew up,” stated Adrienne Burton, Owner of Auntie Adrienne’s Restaurant. “However, as more people ate my food, the more I kept hearing over and over that I should lean into this passion for making great food.”

Adrienne initially launched a successful catering business. “I was working as a Property Manager and selling dinners in my free time. After years of selling dinners went exceptionally well, I left my job in 2017 to focus on my passion for cooking,” Adrienne shared about her entrance into the catering business. “Then I found while I was catering, people wanted to eat my food more often, and a place where they could come and get it when the craving hit them,” she chuckled. With this information from her customer base and the need for a larger, permanent kitchen, Adrienne made the bold decision to venture out and see what it would take to open a restaurant. Crowd testing was the method she used to prove that a more formal establishment was needed, as her catering didn’t keep up with the demand for access to her cooking.

Yet 2020 would prove to be the curveball year very few people saw coming. Auntie Adrienne’s Restaurant faced delay after delay with inspectors and repair people out of work due to COVID-19.  Yet Adrienne persevered, and officially opened the restaurant on November 6th, 2020. “While the opening process was delayed, I feel extremely blessed, and I honestly believe that the timing of things worked out. It was challenging, but it was a good challenge.”

And Adrienne is certainly no stranger to challenges. A two-time breast cancer survivor, Adrienne knows what it means to wait patiently, persevere, and overcome. As she spoke, her voice full of emotion, she made note of a pair of pink boxing gloves on a wall in the restaurant. “As a survivor at such a young age, I just knew it was time for me to do what I was created to do and be what people needed from me. I want to have impact because I know I’m still here for a reason!”

With that same sense of determination, Adrienne offered this advice to new business owners, especially those challenged by the impacts of the current pandemic: “Fear was a big thing I had to get over – fear of success and the fear of failure. Stay faithful and stay on your path. Even when it seems like it isn’t going to work out, keep doing the work. Make consistent improvements, and make it work. I never worked in a restaurant before, but here I am running my own, and we’re learning as we grow!”

When asked what sets Auntie Adrienne’s apart from other restaurants in the area, she proudly exclaimed, “I love what I do, and I want people to FEEL my food! That’s why my slogan for the restaurant is: ‘From my heart to your soul’. As I continue to receive feedback – I accept it and work on my business so that we can get better every day. Our aim is to offer an experience that is different, and we have some creative ideas on the horizon to change up the menu.” Adrienne’s favorite meal? The Manager’s Specials offered on her “Wonder What Wednesday’s”. “I want people to not know what’s on the menu but come to eat anyway because they trust me and trust that whatever the special is will be good,” she laughed. Other amazing fresh takes on the menu: Saucy Fried Shrimp or Chicken, Sticky Chicken made with a homemade rub, and Smack & Cheese.
