Stand Out Truck offers solution to sudden challenge
West Springfield, Mass. - The Stand Out Truck® can provide unique solutions to unexpected problems.
For Mark Barowsky, owner of American Systems and Equipment, the truck is allowing him to showcase a product at an upcoming manufacturing trade show without having the product there.
EASTEC at Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield brings together manufacturing suppliers and tooling innovators from New England. The event from May 16-18 is an opportunity to meet with industry leaders and find innovative solutions to problems, just as Barowsky is doing with the Stand Out Truck®.
Normally American Systems and Equipment brings a demonstration machine for a booth as EASTEC. This year, Barowsky was delayed in reserving booth space and found the expense very high for both renting the space and shipping the product to the location.
Then by chance he passed the Stand Out Truck® parked in Long Meadow, serving as a billboard for local shops. It gave Barowsky the idea to park the truck by the intersection where the estimated 14,000 attendees must enter and exit during the EASTEC. “I’m hoping that will give us enough splash,” Barowsky said.
Generations of Experience
Although American Systems and Equipment started in 1989, the business began in the early 20th century starting with Barowsky’s grandfather.
Barowsky began working in the family business in 1974 when it still had an industrial focus, but has evolved over the years from scrap metal, to manufacturing and metal plates before finding a niche in new and used machinery.
All of the new products are Japanese, in particular Kuraki, which his company has sold since 1981. The machines are used for manufacturing anything made out of metal, such as jet engine parts, automotive parts, valves, submarine parts and materials for turbines and power generators.
“It’s a long list,” Barowsky said.
Bigger and Better Equipment
In addition to new products, American Systems and Equipment also purchases and liquidates manufacturing plants, buying and selling large used machinery around the world. It requires Barowsky to know a wide variety of these machines and understand their value.
“There’s no such thing as a Blue Book like you have for an automobile,” he said. “Prices really are based upon experience.”
Contacts with other dealers from around the country require him to understand the value of the machines, and the possibility of selling equipment that he’s buying. Working with used equipment, he’s developed relationships with other dealers around the world even working in joint ventures together.
“There’s a lot of camaraderie, you make a lot of friends with your customers,” he said.
These connections with other buyers and sellers create a bond, and staying on top of the different markets and equipment keeps him on his toes.
“No one day is the same as the day before,” he said. “You get involved in a tremendous amount of different things from all over the place.”
With both American Systems and Equipment and Stand Out Truck® it’s the connections with others and the ability to find solutions in unforeseen circumstances that sets them apart.
