Discover Organic and Simple Skin Care with Raw Beauty Brand
Springfield, Mass. – Every parent wants to help their child. Not every parent’s solution turns into a business. Crystal Headley created a line of organic skincare products, Raw Beauty Brand, to help her son when the medical community couldn’t properly diagnose him.
“He was having these severe allergic reactions and we just couldn’t figure out the source,” she said. Headley researched chemicals and ingredients on everyday products, and realized their ingredients were part of the problem. Eventually her son was diagnosed with an allergy to several common ingredients including petroleum jelly.
“The need to want to help my son and make sure he was putting products on his skin that weren’t affecting his overall health and causing more harm than good drove me to create Raw Beauty Blend,” she said.
Headley created the products initially for her son, then began giving them to friends and family as gifts. Demand increased as people began noticing the difference in their own skin, prompting her to officially start Raw Beauty Brand in February 2021.
The Raw Beauty Brand products were so effective on her son’s skin, she was convinced to offer the products to other parents who may also be struggling to find a solution for their children’s skin problems.
“I know I can’t be the only one,” she said.
Building Raw Beauty
The business is relying on a crowdfunding campaign to address the need for more space. Currently Headley makes all products in her home and would like a dedicated location to meet demand. The funding would cover a mobile kitchen trailer and add more mixers, refrigerators and cooktop.
She received a grant from Mass Growth Capital Corporation to match the crowdfunding donations if she meets her goal. Headley also received a digital grant to update her website and pay for marketing, including time on the Stand Out Truck®.
“We’re growing organically, but in order to be able to do that we need funds,” she said. The grants would allow her to keep up with the demand without going into debt.
“Money usually is that thing that makes or breaks the growth and longevity of a business. Being able to secure that and adequately use those funds means everything,” Headley said.
The crowdfunding campaign is open through December 20.
Earlier this year, Headley was accepted into the Business Accelerator course at EforAll, allowing her to learn more about becoming an entrepreneur and jump starting the business.
A year ago, before the business began, she never would have expected that Raw Beauty Brand would come to reality. The positive feedback from creating the product helped prompt Headley to pursue the product line full-time. Her enjoyment of the creative process and ability to fulfill a need for her family has been the spark to bring the business to life.
Back To Basics
The natural and organic products are not only good for the skin but use natural scents that smell good without being expensive.
“We get back to the basics of skincare. We’re simple, effective, affordable,” Headley said.
Raw Beauty Brand’s three-pronged mission is to live real, live right, live raw. Through this mission, Raw Beauty Brand focuses on encouraging self-love through caring about skin health, the impact in the community by using recyclable containers and being transparent with the ingredients used.
“Raw Beauty Brand is more than a brand, it’s a lifestyle,” Headley said.
Eventually she hopes to expand into household products, extending her product line beyond body care to provide items that have minimal impact on the environment. She aims to create organic and effective products so that customers have options.
“It shouldn’t be hard to find something simple and wholesome for your home,” Headley added.
There are nine products currently available, with soap being the most popular item. The second most popular item is Headley’s favorite, the body butter. She uses every one of her products daily and calls her own skin a “walking testament to this product.”
“I know it works because I use it. I know it works because my son uses it and he hasn’t had a skin reaction or flare up for almost two years,” Headley said. “I can stand by that because it’s tried, tested and approved.”
Raw Beauty Brand products are sold at rawbeautybrand.com, or can be found in person at several locations throughout the Springfield area: a dedicated kiosk at the Eastfield Mall, Valley Artisans at Hampshire Mall, Pont de Fleur in Shelburne Falls, ARTery in Holyoke and is looking to expand into more stores.
