New Business in Springfield Renewing Lives. Renew Med Spa
Springfield, MA - With obesity at the center of health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea, the best way to get healthy is to lose weight. That’s why the mission of Renew Weight Loss Med Spa is to get patients to an ideal weight and maintain weight loss.
Nurse practitioners Patience and Loic Assobmo recently opened the med spa to guide patients to better overall health.
“All day long my job primarily is (that) I maintain the health of my patients and prevent health issues from happening,” said Loic. “Weight loss is at the center of all these conditions,”
“From day one (at Renew Weight Loss Med Spa), we focus on diet and exercise first, and medication second” he added. Loic said his primary goal is for patients to achieve their goals and maintain better health.
“As a nurse practitioner, my underlying objective is to make them healthy,” he said.
Renew Weight Loss Med Spa opened in January and celebrated with a formal grand opening on April 5. The public was invited to attend from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for refreshments and a ribbon cutting.
New clients can expect to set their exercise goals and understand how to track their diet. Loic sets measurable targets in various areas of weight loss and health for his patients. “We see the proof,” he says. “It makes me so happy to know that I’ve played a role in getting somebody to achieve their goals.”
Driven by Health Access
Loic’s career path was influenced by a stroke his mother had when he was six years old. Living in Cameroon at the time, healthcare options were limited. It was several days before his mother could get the help she needed, and the resources weren’t available for his mother to return to one hundred percent. The family soon moved to the United States where Assobmo’s father had spent much of his engineering career working and where his mother could get better healthcare.
“At that point, I made up my mind that I wanted to work in health care so that I could help take care of people who are in situations like my mom,” he said.
“That’s also partly why I have a soft spot in my heart for helping the people that need it the most,” he added.
He eventually received his master’s to become a nurse practitioner, Patience became a gynecological nurse practitioner
The Assobmos opted to open in Springfield because they feel there are fewer resources for patients there.
“People have different access depending where they’re living,” Loic said. “From both of our experiences we felt that Springfield was the area that needed the most help”
Building a Business
Loic is an expert in medicine, but admits he needs guidance in marketing. He quickly enlisted Ayanna Crawford to help with media and Jack Clement to serve as business advisor. They suggested he contact Stand Out Truck® owner Mychal Connolly for marketing advice. The two connected one evening for what Loic assumed would be a quick call.
“Next thing you know we’re on the phone for two-and-a-half hours,” said Loic. “We both have similar passions. I was really feeling his energy. I thought, this is the type of person I need to be connected with to make this thing successful.”
Once the Renew Weight Loss Med Spa has become established in weight loss, they will add Botox, lip fillers and eventually vaginal rejuvenation. When the couple suggested these options to friends and acquaintances, all were met with enthusiasm. They also will offer a men’s health clinic focused on issues like testosterone and erectile dysfunction.
“We always talk about women’s health, but I think sometimes we neglect that men also suffer from certain health issues,” Loic said. “I very much value treating people and making them feel better. That’s partly why I want to treat the people who need the most help.”
